Post-pregnancy Weight Criticism Made Debra Messing 'Depressed'

Actress Debra Messing has confessed that she felt 'depressed' after reading tabloid criticism about her post pregnancy weight.

The 'Will and Grace' star, who gave birth to her son Roman in 2004, said that felt herself to be a victim of tabloid critics who snubbed her for failing to drop the extra pounds she had gained during the pregnancy.

"It was written about in the tabloids a lot," the Daily Express quoted her as telling Shape magazine.

"On one page it showed all the actresses who got skinny in six weeks or less (after giving birth), and on the other page was me! I was so depressed and frustrated," she added.

Debra, who shed 18 kilos three years after welcoming her little son, confessed that it took all the effort in the world to manage her domestic and professional life at the same time while worrying about her weight.

She added: "I was exhausted! I couldn't work out three hours a day and do my job as a mother and an actress. So I took the pressure off. I cut back on seeing the trainer but started eating healthier.

"Ultimately I'm very proud of how I dropped the weight because I think it was the healthy approach. I've finally taken ownership of my body."
