Police Inaction: Gangrape Victim Consumes Poison in UP
A teenaged girl in Bijnor consumed poison after four days of hunger strike after being frustrated with police inaction in arresting the four men who gang raped her.
The girl says she was raped by four men when she was returning from tuition following which she filed a police complaint.

She launched her hunger strike to demand the arrest of those responsible because she said the police had failed to act.

The victim's mother alleged that her daughter was forced to take this extreme step as no action was taken after the complaint was filed with the police

"Nobody listened to our complaint. My daughter had to take this step only because police did not take any action. They have not yet arrested the culprits," she said.

Superintendent of Police VK Shekhar said that action in any case can be taken only after gathering of evidence.

"The investigation for the case is going on. The punishment will be given according to the reports of the investigation. We haven't yet received the proofs against the culprits. We will investigate authentically," said Shekhar.
