Plastic Surgery Booming in India and China
Countries with emerging economies, such as India and China, are seeing a massive boom in plastic surgery procedures, according to a global analysis by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
"It is no surprise to me that the United States has the largest number of aesthetic procedures, and same with Brazil," said ISAPS President Foad Nahai, MD, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Atlanta. "But countries like China and India with emerging economies are generating a lot wealth and as that wealth is passed around, people are choosing to their spend discretionary income on aesthetic procedures."

United States continued to be the hub of plastic surgery as 17.5% of all procedures were performed there, while 14.3% were performed in Brazil. Around 12.7% of cosmetic surgery procedures were performed in China, followed by India at 5.2%.

The type of procedures also varied with nose reshaping and eyelid surgery being common in Thailand and China
