British scientists have come up with a new pill called d VA111913, which they claim can reduce period pains. A Southampton-based company called Vantia Therapeutics is behind this new pill, which the company claims is a breakthrough drug.
"We found that what was on the market did not meet the need of those women who can't even get to work or school because of the pain," said the company's chief medical officer, Hilary McElwaine-Johnn.Dr Jim Phillips, chief executive of Vantia Therapeutics added that the drug has potential to directly target the cause of dysmenorrhea by acting on the smooth muscle in the uterus wall.
A second phase clinical trial involving 128 women in Britain and America is currently underway. Results of the trial are expected to be announced in the middle of the next year.
