Pharmaceutical Education and Research Centre Opened in Kolkatta

Union Minister for Chemicals, Fertilisers and Steel Ram Vilas Paswan Monday inaugurated the second National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) at the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB) at Kolkata.

"The pharmaceutical sector is an important sector where efficient manpower is lacking. With this in view, the union government has decided to set up six more NIPERs all over the country in collaboration with CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research)," Paswan said at the inauguration.

"At present, the common man cannot understand the importance of pharmaceutical sector but once professionally qualified and trained NIPER pass-outs start working in large numbers in the field, people will start feeling the importance of the sector," he said.

NIPER, Kolkata, will operate from IICB premises for now but land has been allotted on the outskirts of the city for its campus.

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya and Union Minister of State for Chemical & Fertilisers and Parliamentary Affairs B.K. Handique were also present at the ceremony.
