Patient Safety Forces Closure Of Hospital

It has been decided to stop admitting patients to the Altrincham General Hospital on account of patients’ safety. The decision been taken by NHS managers who had gathered at a board meeting, this Tuesday.

Although patient safety is believed to be responsible for the closure, some health officials admit that cash factor is the sole reason. The rehabilitation wards that provide in-patient service to the elderly will close soon. The day care clinics, specifically cardiology and dermatology departments will however be functional.

An individualized treatment plan is currently being drafted to ensure that the health care needs of the 19 patients, admitted to the hospital are met. A report by the Greater Manchester Strategic Health Authority (GMSHA) is said to have saved the entire hospital from closure.

The senior health professionals of the health care facility have said that it is impossible to maintain medical coverage on a 24-hour basis. 'It is not possible to continue to provide 24-hour clinical cover at the hospital. Our nursing staff provide excellent care under difficult conditions, but they should expect to be supported by resident medical staff,' concluded David Cain, Chief Executive of Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust.
