Pass Life On: First Ever Organ Donor Enrollment Day Observed in New York
The first ever Organ Donor Enrollment Day was declared in New York by Governor Andrew Cuomo on October 6 to get more people register for organ donation.
When it comes to the number of registered organ donors, about half the national population has registered, but in New York it is less than a quarter.

On the occasion of the Organ Donor Enrollment Day, transplant recipients, their families and medical professionals encouraged people in person and online to register to donate organs.

The social media campaign uses #passlifeon on Twitter and Instagram.

Rob Kochik, Executive Director of the Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network, said, “Some patients wait years for a matching organ transplant. We think that this is a health care crisis with a cure, because we know that if more people had conversations that more people would be able to donate."

Kochik encouraged people to register and talk to their families about their wishes to donate their organs after death.
