Parle Asked to Recall Mango Bite Candy as It is Unsafe for Consumers
One of India’s largest consumer goods manufacturer, Parle Products, has been asked by the Food and Drug Administration to recall its stock of Mango Bite candy from the market as it was found to be “unsafe” for the consumers.
The direction comes after the Konkan Division of FDA conducted raids at Raigadh and Bhiwandi where it seized goods worth more than Rs 2 crore and the organization revealed that Parle was using buffered lactic acid in manufacturing Mango Bite.

Use of buffered lactic acid is not permitted under the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006.

Confirming that it will continue to carry out raids to check whether Parle Products is using buffered lactic acid, the Maharashtra FDA commissioner Mahesh Zagde said, “So far, stocks of the candy have been seized in Nashik and Konkan. All the food safety inspectors across the state have been alerted to carry out similar raids in their respective areas”. This is the second time that Parle Products has been pulled by the FDA which had earlier found that it was using a color that is not permitted by the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006 in manufacturing Mango Bite back in 2009 and 2010.
