Painkillers are a Regular in the Lives of Seven Million People in Britain
A research into painkiller abuse, a rampant but hitherto hidden problem, has revealed that seven million people consume them regularly to feel fit enough to go to work.
Nuffield Health discovered that nearly 25% of British adult population is regularly on painkillers and one out of ten took them just to stay productive at work.

Painkiller addiction is a distinct possibility, especially the ones containing codeine. Dependence on prescription painkillers is posing to be a big problem.

The survey showed that most of them consume drugs like paracetamol and ibuprofen, but many also resorted to more powerful medicines such as tramadol and those containing codeine, which can become addictive. A small number are using more powerful opiates like morphine and pethidine.

The research also showed that painkillers were being consumed for a number of conditions such as joint pain, migraine and head injury. Excessive use of painkillers causes side effects.

Experts also warn that patients using painkillers excessively could also experience withdraw symptoms when they stop taking them. He recommended alternative solutions like an effective exercise program, surgery, or physiotherapy, rather than popping painkillers.
