Operating Time Reduced by Covidien Endo Stitch
A new automated suturing device manufactured by Irish healthcare device company Covidien was found to reduce the mean operating time as well as the hospital costs for total laparoscopic hysterectomies treating benign conditions.
The study was presented at the 40th Global Congress of the Minimally Invasive Gynecology of the American Association of GynecologicLaparoscopists (AAGL) and revealed that using Endo Stitch reduced the mean operating time by more than 40 minutes when compared to surgeries using robotic assistance and was also less expensive.

Stuart Hart, MD, FACOG, FACS, co-director of the University of South Florida Center for the Advancement of Minimally Invasive Pelvic Surgery, who helped present the results of the study spoke to Medgadget and said that the Endo Stitch device automates the process of suturing.and helps surgeons to suture with very little skill needed.
