Once-a-Month Osteoporosis Drug on PBS

The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme in Australia has been boosted by the addition of a monthly formulation of an osteoporosis drug called Actonel Once-a-Month.

"The availability of a once-a-month treatment on the PBS, that is well-tolerated and just as effective as its daily counterpart, arms Australian doctors with another tool for the treatment of osteoporosis," said noted doctor John Eisman.

The drug slows bone degradation, thus allowing the body more time to rebuild healthy bone. Latest data indicates that some 2 million Australians suffer from osteoporosis.
