Oldest Living Kidney Donor in Britain at 83 Years
Nicholas Crace continued doing his bit to help patients in Hampshire, England, by becoming the oldest living kidney donor in Britain at the age of 83 years.
Crace is a volunteer driver at the local hospice and has also donated blood over 57 times before being told that he was too old to donate blood when he turned 70. Crace said that he even enquired about donating his bone marrow but was told that he had to be under 40 years of age.

However when he found that there was no age limit for donating a kidney, he decided to become a living donor instead of signing up to donate the organs after his death. Crace said that he found out more than 7,000 people were waiting for a kidney transplant and there is a death almost every day of the waiting period.

“I would have been very disappointed if I had been turned down. I was ideally placed to be a donor after the hospital had established that I was fit and had excellent kidneys. One can live perfectly happily with only one kidney – in fact some people are born with only one”, he said.
