Researchers at Northeastern University in Boston have found that older people are happier and are able to banish negative emotions quicker than their younger peers. The finding is contrary to popular belief that older people morose due to worsening of their cognitive functioning and physical health.
The researchers said that one of the reasons for older people being happier was because they avoided situations or things that were likely to upset them.
Writing in the report, published in the journal Current Directions in Psychological Science, lead researcher Derek Isaacowitz said that older people prefer positive looking patterns and were positive even when in bad moods.
