Office Boredom Causes Workers to Drink or Binge on Junk Food
Bored office workers are turning to caffeinated drinks and chocolate to lighten up their day, according to occupational psychologist Sandi Mann at the University of Central Lancashire in the United Kingdom.
About 25% office workers indicated of 'chronic boredom', due to which 8 in 10 workers complained of losing concentration and 50% said that boredom caused them to make mistakes. After studying 102 office-based workers it was revealed that when the workers get bored, they tend to comfort eat. The survey also showed that people are more likely to have an alcoholic drink at the end of a boring day at work.

Dr. Mann said, "My analysis suggests that the most significant cause of office boredom is an undemanding workload, so managers should look at ways of reducing sources of workplace boredom and encourage better ways of coping. This could involve enrichment programmes such as job rotation, multi-skilling and empowerment. Encouraging healthier ways of coping with boredom could include education or providing healthy snacks and drinks in canteens."
