Obesity Epidemic Linked to Americans Caught In Desk Jobs
A study has found that desk jobs are the reason behind the obesity epidemic among workers in the U.S.
According the study workers are burning on average 100 fewer calories on the job than workers did 50 years ago, reports the New York Daily News.

"In the early 1960s almost half the jobs in private industry in the U.S. required at least moderate intensity physical activity, whereas now less than 20 pc demand this level of energy expenditure," the study explained.

The shift in calorie output is a result from the shift in occupations from people employed in goods-producing jobs (like factories) and agriculture jobs to service jobs and other office jobs that are largely composed of sitting at a desk.

The study has been published in the journal PLoS ONE.
