An exhaustive study which tracked nearly 3300 children from their preschool years till their early grades showed the deep-rooted problems faced by obese children.
Typically, obese children were withdrawn due to low self-esteem attributed to their size. They often faced rejection, were bullied for their size and had trouble making new friends.

The study showed that obese kids carried a 20% chance of suffering problems with their peers.
