Nursery Teacher Banned for Spraying Children With Room Freshener

A nursery school teacher Elizabeth Davies, 50, has been banned from teaching register as she is accused to have sprayed Asian children of Bangladeshi origin with air freshener for 'smelling of curry'. She also directed her class assistants to do the same. She was also found guilty of leaving wet children unchanged. She would make them stand on a newspaper if they accidentally happened to wet themselves. Mrs. Davies would also prevent other support staff from changing the student's soiled clothes. Davies denied all allegations against her like spraying aerosol at pupils and washing pupil's hands in disinfectants.

Chairman of the disciplinary panel, General Teaching Council for Wales (GCTW) panel sitting in Cardiff, Mr. Peter Williams said, "It is our view that Mrs. Davies's behavior strikes at the heart of what it is to be a teacher. This is a complete disregard for the children's dignity which should be preserved at all times." This panel ruled Elizabeth Davies to be guilty in all the offences which together amounted to unacceptable professional conduct. Davies did not attend the hearing and was represented by her union.
