Nursery costs in UK have soared twice as quickly as wages
which would make mothers choose to stay at home after having kids rather than
returning back to office. Â Mothers would
probably opt for working from home options.
The Daycare trust carried out a poll which revealed that on
an average a nursery for a child below 2years of age in UK costs about 5,028
pounds per year. While the most expensive nursery in the country charges 28,600
pounds a year for full day-care. Survey carried out by the Daycare
Trust state that since last year the nursery fees for a child of two or more
have increased by 4.8%, but the wage growth rate for the same period is 2.1%.
Acting Chief executive of the Daycare Trust, Anand Shukla said,
"It is unfair that Britain spends more on childcare than any other country. When
parents sit down to calculate their family finances and see childcare costs
increasing far faster than their wages, it is no wonder they may think twice
about the economic sense of staying in work."
