Now, Store Your Body's Immune System for Future Use Against Deadly Diseases

Lifeforce, an Anglo-American company has been allowed to store white blood cells of people to fight diseases in future by the US Food and Drug Administration.

White blood cells or leukocytes are cells of the immune system that defend the body against both infectious disease and foreign materials.

The company will reportedly take 480-millilitre of blood from interested healthy individuals and will extract the white blood cells to store at 196 degree Celsius.

The service will cost around 88 dollars initially and a monthly fees of 25 dollars.

According to Del DelaRonde, co-founder of the company in Newport, UK, the stored sample will have the complete range of a person's white blood cells.

"That sample would have the complete repertoire of all your white blood cells," New Scientist quoted DelaRonde, as saying.

White blood cells can be generated later when needed, by taking the stored sample and exposing it to natural growth factors such as interleukin-2.

The new generated army of white blood cells can be re-infused to a persons' body, similar to the 'adoptive' therapies done on cancer patients.

"Whole new armies of white blood cells could be grown in the lab and reinfused into the patient"In the case of HIV, which progressively destroys immune cells, the process could be repeated perhaps once a year, by multiplying up and re-storing fractions of the samples," DelaRonde said.

However, it might not be possible to generate all the white blood cells, for some types of white blood cell, such as macrophages, are not seen to survive freezing.
