NMC Sets Up Incident Management Course
Falling skill levels in first aid has led the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) to set up a course for “incident management” which includes teaching trainee nurses how to provide first aid.
Garth Long, the project lead for the review of pre-registration requirements at NMC, revealed that his organization sat down with British Red Cross and St John Ambulance over the problem of falling levels of first aid skills among nurses before deciding that all the universities teaching trainee nurses should put more emphasis on first aid.

“Incident management is also now included, which is how you would organise yourself if there was an incident like a car accident. This includes questions like: 'Who is injured? Who is the priority? Who needs my care first? What do I need to do and who do I need to call?'”, he added.
