Nintendo Unveils Device That Can Measure Stress Levels

by VR Sreeraman on Jun 5 2009 1:02 PM

Nintendo has unveiled the Wii Vitality Sensor - a pulse sensor that can measure stress levels.

The revolutionary device was unveiled by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata at E3 - the Electronic Entertainment Expo - the world's largest gathering of the computer gaming community.

The Wii Vitality Sensor slips on the end of the user's finger and is attached to the controller. It measures a player's heart-rate and skin conductance and sends the information to the console.

According to Iwata, the device could be used to help people relax when it is released in 2010, reports The Daily Telegraph.

"With the sensor, we can tell whether you are breathing in or out. We can tell how nervous you are," Iwata said.

"It can create an entirely new way to think about video games."
