Nine Year Old Indian Girl Sneezes 8000 Times A Day
Ira Saxena, a nine- year old school girl has started sneezing 8,000 times a day. It has made her life miserable. Ira Saxena's sneezing began about three weeks ago and she now emits around 10 involuntary episodes per minute. She is a resident of Colchester, England and has been kept at home since her condition started.
The only respite she gets is when she is asleep and again starts sneezing the moment she wakes up. She has been unable to go to school as constant sneezing keeps her from concentrating in her classes. Ira told media, "It is really horrible. My face hurts every time I sneeze, it just shoots a sharp pain in my head and sides. I can't go to school, I can't finish the day because I'm sneezing so much. My friends think it's contagious, but it is not, so they don't want to sit with me.” she said. This also stops her from going out and she is pretty much restricted to her house.

Ira’s parents have consulted many doctors and specialists. Her mother Priya Saxena, a primary school teacher told, “Three weeks ago, she just woke up sneezing and she has not stopped since. It started slowly and has progressed to become more constant and violent. The doctors are saying it is possibly an incorrect signal being sent from her brain or a tic, but nobody can be sure.”

Ira is not allergic to anything and is given antihistamines, nasal spray and steroids on regular basis but is not responding to anything. The doctors are amazed by the mysterious condition and have ruled out the most common causes of sneezing such as cold or allergies. Ira is being experimented on with homeopathic medicine. During her hour-long hypnotherapy session, she stopped sneezing but once the session came to an end, she again started sneezing afterwards.

It is very frustrating for her mother to see her child suffering but the school has been very supportive. Priya admits to her child being affected by this condition and wants to get rid of it.

In 2009, Lauren Johnson, 12, of Virginia, started to sneeze thousands of times a day and was eventually diagnosed by an immunologist who said her immune system had stopped functioning properly by a throat infection. Last year Katelyn Thornley of Texas started sneezing bouts but the doctors are still perplexed about her condition.
