New Vaccine to Terminate Cocaine's Addictive Buzz

Researchers have modified a safe bacterial protein called flagellin to boost the immune response to cocaine, which can help terminate cocaine's addictive buzz, according to a study published in ACS journal Molecular Pharmaceutics.

Flagellin has already been safely incorporated in other vaccines. During the study, researchers tested the compound in mice and found that it worked better than a vaccine candidate they had developed previously.

Recreational Drugs are not Completely Safe
Recreational drugs are commonly used in rave parties. Serotonin syndrome can occur in patients taking N-benzylpiperazine.

The researchers concluded that this new finding opens up a new avenue for designing vaccines against drugs of abuse.
