New Treatment Approach for Aggressive Prostate Cancer Developed
Researchers at Queen's University in Belfast have developed a new form of cancer treatment for those suffering from aggressive form of prostate cancer, combining traditional chemotherapy treatments with two doses of a radioactive chemical.
The research was led by Dr Joe O'Sullivan, who is a consultant and senior lecturer in clinical oncology at Queen’s, and has been published in the European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging.

The treatment combines the traditional chemotherapy treatment with a radioactive chemical, known as Rhenium-186 HEDP, which then targets the areas of the bone that are affected by the cancer.

“This is a significant development in the fight against prostate cancer. While this combination treatment still has to go to phase two of trials, to know that this combination is safe and feasible as a treatment is a huge step forward”, Dr O’Sullivan said.
