New Line of Cracker Jacks Will Contain Caffeine
Makers of the popular candy snacks, Cracker Jacks, revealed that they will be coming out with a new line of the product which will contain caffeine.
Frito-Lay confirmed that it is in the process of introducing the new line, to be known as Cracker Jack'd, which will contain caffeine and will be marketed solely to adults. Apart from snack mixes and popcorn clusters, it will also contain “Power Bite” wafers that will have around 70 milligrams of caffeine per 2-ounce package.

However the move has attracted criticism from a number of organizations, including Center for Science in the Public Interest which has called on the Food and Drug Administration to investigate the product as it violated the agency rules.

CSPI’s director of communications Jeff Cronin admitted that Frito-Lay will be able to go around the agency rules as it has included coffee, not pure caffeine, in its product. However Cronin said that adding caffeine, either in pure form or as coffee, to a kid-friendly product was not a good move.

“It is wholly inappropriate to add caffeine to a kid-friendly product, regardless of whether the caffeine comes from coffee or another source. Even if the company intends to market the product to adults, the Cracker Jack brand is one that children have a long attraction to”, he said.
