New Guidelines Ban Fatty Food in Schools to Fight Obesity

A massive crackdown on obesity in the UK has triggered new guidelines, which ban fatty foods like chocolate, crisps and sugary drinks in secondary schools across the country.

"Obesity is the biggest health challenge this country faces. There are currently 1.5 million children who are overweight or obese, leaving them at an increased risk of developing conditions such as type-two diabetes, cancer, heart and liver disease later in life. Nutritious school lunches can make eating well a healthy habit for life," said Andy Burnham, Health Secretary.

Under the rules, which were voluntary since 2006, at least two portions of fruit and vegetables must be served by every day, while crisps and chocolates are banned. Low fat milk and fruit juices are the only beverages allowed, which means sodas are out.

Burgers, sausages and meat pies can be served only once in two weeks.
