A remarkable device that can transfer portable glucose meter readings to an online database has been developed by PositiveID Corporation. It is remarkable in that it is a stand-alone device, not needing a computer or a cell phone to send the data. It automatically gets the information from data-capable glucometers for blood glucose readings and sends that information through wireless machine-to-machine (M2M) technology to an online database. If the patient desires it, the information can also be sent to doctors and caregivers at regular intervals.
The company is expected to apply for FDA approval soon.
