New Chair Sounds Alarm If You are Sitting for too Long
Researchers have developed a new chair that has a sitting pad designed to set off an alarm if you have been sitting for too long.
The chair designed by researchers at the Queensland University, is meant to prevent serious health issues that can develop if people sit for too long without taking a break and walking around.

Study team member Gemma Ryde told Daily Mail that sitting for large portions of the day is linked to poor health outcomes for most office workers, “Our studies have shown that the sitting pad is a highly accurate measurement tool that can objectively measure desk based sitting time and the number of times employees get up from their own desk,” she added.

The new chair has a sitting pad that lets out an alarm if people have been occupying the chair for too long. If the worker thinks he can trick the chair by getting up for a moment and then sitting back on the chair, the alarm continues to run.

The sitting pad has a senor and Bluetooth connectivity built into it. The latter can be used for interventional studies, the researchers said.
