 Neural Pathway and Stress Response

A recent study published in 'Nature' reveals a neural pathway, discovered by a team from University of Leicester, influences the way we respond to stress.

Scientists discovered that a protein called neuropsin plays a key role at the cellular level in influencing our response to stress.

They further found that the amygdala, which is the emotional centre of the brain, produces neurospin as a response to stressful situations. As neurospin gets released, the amygdala is further activated.

Dr Robert Pawlak , team leader said, "It was previously known that certain individuals are more susceptible to the detrimental effects of stress than others. Although the majority of us experience traumatic events, only some develop stress-associated psychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety or post-traumatic stress disorder."
