Nearly 756 Fresh Cases of Dengue Reported in New Delhi

Delhi hospitals reported 756 cases of dengue in the week ending September 30, down from the nearly 900 cases that had been reported the previous week, according to the data by the Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCDs). So far, around 172 cases of dengue have been reported while 40 cases of chikungunya have been reported in the district. Among these, around 14 cases were reported from Nabha sub-division of the district. Areas like Kartarpura Mohalla and its surroundings are witnessed a large number of dengue cases.

As many as 756 fresh cases of dengue were reported in New Delhi in the last one week, taking the number of people affected by the vector-borne disease this season to 3,865. Of the total 3,865 dengue cases, 1,807 affected people were residents of Delhi, while the rest were from other states. Of the 1,807 Delhi residents, 1,103 cases were reported in September itself.

The health department claimed of creating awareness among the masses about the precautionary steps in this regard. However, health officials claim that despite it being peak time for dengue larva to nurture following the monsoon, but the situation is quite different this time as the number of cases reported used to be in large numbers in the last few years.

“There has definitely been an increase in the number of cases of dengue and this could most likely be due to the intermittent rains that Delhi had recently. Although, the numbers now seem higher than the previous year, the figures will balance out as we are hoping that there will be a decline in the number of cases in the next 15 or 20 days,” said a municipal health official.

The report also shows that Delhi hospitals have also reported 995 cases of malaria, of which 482 people are Delhi residents. As for chikungunya, a total of 589 cases have been reported, of which 338 people are from Delhi.

Last year, when Delhi had a chikungunya outbreak, 4,257 cases had been reported during the same period.
