The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) said that the key ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup known as glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic to humans” in the month of March. Monsanto called the findings by the team of IARC scientists as “junk science” and called for a retraction.
Monsanto has asked the Intertek Scientific & Regulatory Consultancy to convene a panel of internationally recognized scientific experts to conduct the review of WHO’s IARC’s work.
The panel of experts include medical doctors, cancer experts, individuals with doctoral degrees and who are specialists in public health, said Monsanto.
Monsanto President Brett Begemann, said, "It has created a lot of confusion. This panel is going to review the data thoroughly, and they are going to make their findings available to everyone for review."
Monsanto is confident in the the safety of its herbicide products, and the review is being done primarily to reassure consumers and others said Begemann.
