Mobile Phones Not Worse Than Taking Hot Bath for Kids?

by Rajashri on Sep 1 2009 11:35 PM

A new government health leaflet in the UK is not advocating precautions when it comes to mobile phones and children. Current guidelines say that such phones affect brain development, but a new draft does not include these warnings.

According to The Daily Mail, the draft says: "There is currently no scientific or biological evidence that radio waves cause cancer. Body heating is normal and happens with exercise or in a hot bath with no ill effects."

Alasdair Philips, from Powerwatch is not happy with the new advisory, "A number of international studies have found a significant increase in brain tumours among people who have used a cellphone for more than 10 years," he said. "It's incredible that the notion there is no good reason to restrict children's use of mobile phones could be the official Government line. This would be completely irresponsible and immoral."

In Britain almost all 16-year-olds own a handset and even take it to schools.
