Midwives Dismiss Fears Over Home Births
Dismissing recent reports that home birth is dangerous to the child compared to a hospital birth, Royal College of Midwives has said that the reports use “flawed” data in order to provide the evidence to their claims.
The Lancet had recently published a report carried out American researchers which said that giving birth to your child in the home is three times more risky compared to a hospital birth. However the general secretary of the Royal College of Midwives, Cathy Warwick has dismissed the report as being “sweeping and misogynistic”.

Warwick claimed that a backlash of global proportions has been going on over home births, adding that there is no real evidence which proves that a hospital birth is safer than home births.

“There is a danger that risk during childbirth is presented in a way which is leading women to believe that hospital birth equals a safe birth. It does not. There is no hard and fast guarantee that a woman will have a safer birth in a hospital than at home”, she said.
