Medical device maker Medtronic Inc has revealed that it will be undertaking a study to assess if its stents can be useful in treating erectile dysfunction. The stent will be meat for people who have not responded to ED drugs like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra.
"The link between erectile dysfunction and coronary artery disease has been well established. Based on this evidence, we are investigating the use of stents in pelvic arteries to determine whether it may provide a new treatment approach and enable better response to drug therapies," said a statement issued by Dr. Jason Rogers, director of interventional cardiology at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento and a lead investigator for the study.

The study is due to involve 50 people at 10 US medical centers and will start next year. The results are expected to be out by 2011.
