A team comprising three members from Medical Council of India (MCI) conducted an inspection of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) as a prelude to granting permission for increasing the seat limit from 90 to 150 for the MBBS course.
The team inspected the central emergency ward, ENT and radiology department, MRI centre, cardiac care centre and assessed the posts of faculties and postgraduate students. Thy also visited the RIMS registration counters.During the inspection authorities were aghast to find a cluttered emergency ward and some suggestions were made to clear the congestion. Nameplates were found to be indiscriminately hanging which prompted a member of the inspection team to say “Everyone is not entitled to place nameplates. There are set norms for placing them.”
The MCI has recommended some more modifications at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences.
MCI, instituted in 1934, is the watch dog for medical colleges and hospitals, whose measures have helped, standardize medical education.
