Marathon to Raise Health Awareness in Imphal

A marathon under the banner 'Run For Your Heart' was recently held in Imphal to speard awareness about the functions of the heart and common heart problems.

The marathon, which was jointly organized by the Manipur Heart Foundation and Sky Hospital and Research Centre, Manipur, saw a participation of over 200 locals.

The president of the Manipur Heart Foundation, Dr. L Shyamkishore Singh, said he was thrilled to see youth being so keen to run for a cause.

"This event aims at creating awareness regarding heart disease preventive measures. This is one of its kind in Manipur. I am pleased to see the participation; many volunteers have turned in for the event," Singh added.

The marathon kicked off from the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital (JNIMS) gate, passed through Imphal city and ended at the head office of Sky Hospital at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) road.

Volunteers showed their enthusiasm in raising awareness about heart ailment cures.

"This event will raise awareness among the public and help facilitate the public for becoming healthier and taking care of them," said Samuel Lairikyengbam, a participant.

Alcohol and tobacco consumption is high in Manipur, resulting in rising heart attacks and heart diseases.

Government initiatives and efforts of such foundations help in creating awareness as well as promote a healthy way of living among the locals.
