More than half of British girls under 15 years of age are unhappy with their bodies and want to lose weight even though they are not overweight, a new survey reveals. The Schools Health Education Unit conducted a nationwide survey involving more than 31,000 school children between 10 and 15 years of age and found that over 58 percent of girls aged between 13 and 14 years wanted to lose weight while a similar number of girls between 12 and 13 years of age were also not happy with their body weight. The researchers warned that there could be serious health problems for the girls, many of whom fall within the "healthy" weight rage while some of them were already underweight. "Analysis of the characteristics of the females shows that most of those wanting to lose weight are within the limits of 'healthy' weight, and some are already underweight", the researchers wrote in their report.
