Manipur Makes It to Guinness Book of World Records for Distributing Hearing Aids
In a grand hearing aid distribution ceremony held in Imphal, a total of 6,464 hearing aids were distributed, setting the record within eight hours.
The previous record was that of Gujarat created on September 17, 2016. Beating that record, Manipur entered the Guinness Book of World Records for distribution of maximum number of hearing aids.

The Guinness officials witnessed the event through live webcast and then provided a provisional certificate which was sent to the state government.

Lauding the State Health Department, Manipur Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh asserted that all credits should be given to the ground level workers. “It is a proud moment for all of us in Manipur to create such a world record and all ASHA workers, nurses, doctors and officials of the state health department should be given the credits” Ibobi said.

Chief Minister Ibobi also said the state would provide Rs.2 crore in addition to the Rs.4.4 crore provided by the Centre to conduct such events. Meanwhile, Ibobi was handed over the Provisional Certificate from Guinness World Records in a simple function at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

The hearing aid distribution ceremony was organised by the National Programme for Prevention of Deafness, National Health Mission, Manipur and Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) as part of the Centre’s Samajik Adhikarita Shivir and Distribution of Aids and Assistive Devices to Persons with Disabilities.
