 Manipal Hospital Offers Bariatric Surgery Package

The department of surgical gastroenterology at Manipal Hospital is offering a bariatric surgery package so that patients can get sufficient pre-operative education about the surgery.

"Obesity has become a growing health problem across the world. In India, an estimated 5% to 10% people are obese, and among them 2% are morbidly obese," said Dr SC Nagendra Swamy, COO, Bangalore region and director, Shared Strategic Services. "Among various health problems associated with morbid obesity are hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, coronary artery disease, osteoarthritis, respiratory disease, sleep disorders and depression."

The Bariatric Surgery Services unit comprises of physicians, nurses, dieticians, psychotherapists and exercise physiologists.

This team will educate people on the need for the surgery and will also provide a comprehensive weight management program for patients.
