The department of surgical gastroenterology at Manipal Hospital is offering a bariatric surgery package so that patients can get sufficient pre-operative education about the surgery.

“Obesity has become a growing health problem across the world. In India, an estimated 5% to 10% people are obese, and among them 2% are morbidly obese,” said Dr SC Nagendra Swamy, COO, Bangalore region and director, Shared Strategic Services. “Among various health problems associated with morbid obesity are hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, coronary artery disease, osteoarthritis, respiratory disease, sleep disorders and depression.”
