Mangalore to Take Tough Action for Artificial Fruit Ripening
The Mangalore City Corporation commissioner has said that his organization will be cracking down hard on any wholesale dealers who artificially ripen the fruits even as complaints of adulteration continues to flow in.
Speaking at a meeting chaired by mayor Rajani Dugganna, MCC commissioner K N Vijayaprakash revealed that he has been receiving reports that some of the wholesale dealers indulge in such an illegal practice of using chemicals in order to artificially ripen the fruits.

He went on to add that MCC will be contacting Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore, or Food and Water Analysis Laboratory, Bangalore in order to find more food items which are suspected to be adulterated but said that lab reports take a long time to come.

While there are two food inspectors in the corporation, they do not have the expertise required to unearth food adulteration on a large scale. Vijayprakash said a food testing laboratory can take care of this aspect.
