Male Contraceptive Pill Continues to Generate Interest
Different research teams in the United States are competing against each other to develop the first male contraceptive pills that are safe and risk free.
Currently there are two pills similar to female contraceptive pills that are made up of testosterone and progestin. Even though they have been found to be successful among more than 95 percent of the men who took them, they are not yet found to be safe due to the number of side effects.

Majority of the male contraceptive pills are also ineffective when taken under influence of alcohol. A report published in The New York Times looked into the new generation of male contraceptive pills that look to lower the sperm count in men to below the level necessary for a successful conception.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will be sponsoring a conference in October that will allow researchers to present their studies on the subject. “Male contraception is a critical area. It doesn't make sense to not include everyone in the discussion”, the foundation's spokeswoman, Jenny Sorensen said.
