Maharashtra Soon to Get An Independant Council for Acupuncture Therapy

Maharashtra government has decided to start an independent council for acupuncture. It will monitor the practice of the therapy in the state and will prepare all legal documents for the practitioners with the help of Medical Council of India (MCI).

The decision was taken in the state Cabinet meeting headed by the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. It has approved a draft of the Maharashtra Acupuncture Treatment Act, 2015, which has paved the way for the formation of the council. Maharashtra is the second state after West bengal to have a acupuncture council shortly.

Lose Weight With Psychological Acupuncture
A researcher at Gold Coast’s Bond University suggests that opting for a psychological acupuncture could help reduce food cravings and lose weight.

“It would be an autonomous body like all other medical councils. The objective is to monitor and keep some control over the practitioners of this therapy. So far, there is no monitoring of the practitioners. Anyone can start practicing the therapy and no educational qualification or criteria was needed for the same. The council will formulate the standards, laws, curriculum and all other necessary aspects,” said the officers.

“Once the bill is passed, the body of the council will be formed and will start performing its duties,” said a senior official. He further added that the state government also has plans to regulate naturopathy and yoga in the coming future.
