The Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA) announced that Mr M Rama Prasad had been appointed Chairman of its Health Insurance Forum. Mr Rama Prasad is a non-life member of the IRDA. The announcement was made on 29 February 2012.
The Health Insurance Forum is expected to eventually become a self-regulatory organization to help promote health insurance.
It had been earlier reported that the forum would help evolve policies and processes for the health insurance sector.
With 32 members, including CEOs of health insurance companies, life insurers, third party administrators (TPAs), officials from labour and health ministries, and representatives of health service providers, the body, IRDA has said, would act as a consultative agency between insurance companies and other stakeholders.
It would also assist IRDA in collecting data to efficiently conduct the health insurance business in the country.
