Low-Fat Dairy Products Do Not Helps Kids Lose Flab
While it is often assumed that using low fat dairy products are helpful for kids in reducing weight, a new study conducted by a group of Australian researchers reveal that the kids do not lose any excess weight in spite of consuming lower amounts of saturated fat.
Researchers at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization included around 145 kids in the study. The participants were divided into two groups, one which continued with their usual diet while the second group included low fat dairy products.

At the end of six months, the researchers found that while the amount of calories from saturated fat decreased from 16.6 percent to 13.3 percent, the body mass index or the waistlines and overall weight saw no change.

National Dairy Council’s Greg Miller said that the only positive outcome of switching to low fat dairy products is the lower consumption of saturated fat. “A lot of researchers say that if we just get people to consume low-fat or reduced-fat products, we can have an impact on weight. The only thing given up is saturated fat, which you don't need”, he said.
