Lost Pounds After Liposuction Show Up on the Belly
While liposuction is often looked to be the most effortless way of losing weight, a new study carried out by researchers at the University of Colorado suggests that not only does the lost weight come back, it can show at some very undesirable places.
The researchers observed 14 healthy women, with an average age of 40 years and average weight of 138 pounds, who opted for “contouring” liposuction surgery. The surgery removed an average weight of 2.9 pounds of the body fat.

With the help of MRI and X-Ray scans, the researchers analyzed their body weight at six weeks, six months and one year after the surgery. The researchers found that at the end of one year, the amount of fat that was taken out during the surgery returned back and regardless of the area of the body which had been the target of the surgery, the excess fat returned in the abdominal area or in the shoulders or triceps.

“Mechanisms behind restoration of the adipose tissue mass following surgical removal remain uncertain but are of great interest”, the researchers concluded in their report that has been published in the journal, Obesity.
