Looking to Control Your Blood Pressure? Go for Traditional Chinese Exercises!
Regular practice of Chinese exercises such as Tai Chi, Baduanjin and Qigong improves the quality of life for people suffering from cardiovascular disease. These traditional mind-body exercises focus on meditation, breathing and postures.
A study by Chen Pei-Jie and his team from Shanghai University of Sport in China found that the exercises reduced the systolic blood pressure by more than 9.12 mm Hg and diastolic blood pressure by more than 5 mm Hg on average.

The team reviewed 35 studies that looked at 2,249 participants in total from 10 different countries. These exercises also had an effect on the cholesterol levels by significantly dropping bad cholesterol and triglycerides in the body.

After analysis they found that traditional Chinese exercises can also reduce depression and improve quality of life in people with cardiovascular disease.

However, traditional Chinese exercises did not significantly improve participant’s heart rate and aerobic fitness levels. The study was published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
