Circle City Marketing and Distributing, operating under the name Candy Dynamics in Indianapolis, Ind., has voluntarily recalled its products due to elevated levels of lead.
"Toxic Waste", a bubble gum, imported from Pakistan has been reported to contain lead levels of 0.189 parts per million (ppm), above the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tolerance level of 0.1 ppm.
The product had been distributed all over the country in retail stores and through mail orders and is said to have been distributed in limited quantities in Canada and Switzerland.
The pellets were also found to contain 6% uranium by Livermore Nuclear Weapons Lab geoscientist, Leuren Moret. The candies resemble uranium fuel pellets from a nuclear power plant.
The report reveals that lead levels above the FDA tolerance level could cause health problems, particularly for infants, small children and pregnant women.
