While laughter may be the best medicine for a large majority of people, a new study published in the online edition of BMJ has found that it could be harmful for some people. Researchers at City Hospital Birmingham reviewed data of patients published between 1946 and 2013 and found that laughter could lead to a number of problems in some people including incontinence, hernias and ruptures while the sudden and deep intakes of breath can lead to inhaling foreign bodies that can trigger asthma attacks. One patient even lost her life due to laughing with the researchers coming across a case where in a woman suffering from a racing heart syndrome having a heart rupture and a torn gullet after a period of intense laughter.
