
With reports coming in of a woman stabbed to death by her son and brother over suspicions of being involved in a illicit relationship, cases of 'honour killings' have been on the rise in Lahore, the capital of Punjab in Pakistan.
Nasreen, a mother of five, had established illicit relations with Nazir, a resident of the same locality, Badamibagh, after which her elder son Arshad and brother Riaz tried to stop her by warning her of dire consequences but she did not pay heed, the Daily Times quoted Asghar Ali, the duty officer at the Badamibagh police station, as saying.
"At last, in the early hours of Wednesday, both stabbed her while she was sleeping," he added.
Aslam, who originally belonged to Bahawalpur, and had shifted to Lahore with his family a few years ago and was working as a security guard in a factory in Sialkot.
In another incident in the provincial capital, a young woman who had eloped with her former husband after a second marriage was gunned down by her younger brother.
Similarly, on August 25, a man strangled and killed his 22-year-old married daughter- Amna- in the name of 'honour' when came to know about her extra-marital relations with a local boy Azhar.
In another 'honour killing' incident, on August 27, a person shot his 35-year-old widowed sister over suspicions of her having illicit relations with a man in the Ghaziabad area. The woman- Abida Bibi- was rushed to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
