A Thai study led by Dr Manoon Leechawengwong has found that joss sticks which are used in shrines and temples emit cancer causing fumes.
The two year study on 40 temple workers at Ayutthaya, Chachoengsao and Samut Prakan who cleaned the ash left over from joss sticks found that they were exposed to risk of leukemia, lung, blood and bladder cancers.
